Tuesday
The next morning Maddie woke up with a huge grin covering her face and her heart filled with happiness; just hearing those three words from David’s lips turned this ‘thing’ they were doing into something special. Instead of getting out of bed to begin her morning routine Maddie decided to just stay in bed a few more minutes snuggled up to David’s warm body. She laid her head on his muscular chest and wrapped her arms and legs around his body; she wanted to be as close to him as possible. Maddie had nearly fallen asleep again when she felt David stirring around her. She raised her head to see if he was awake and was met with his sexy lop sided grin. His green eyes were creased from his beaming smile as he stared down at her in what appeared to be awe. Maddie beamed right back at him. “David.”
“Maddie.” He enveloped her in his strong grip. David planted a kiss on her messy head then his eyes strayed to the clock on the nightstand. “My, my sweetheart do you know what time it is?” He slapped her naked butt. “If you don’t move your sexy ass we’re going to be late to work.” He teased knowing how Maddie loathed to be late to the office. His grin broadened as he felt her shake her head. “And I have a very strict boss.” He quipped.
“I just don’t care this morning.” She purred as she stretched out her sexy body like a cat who just ate a huge bowl of cream. “I just want to stay right here with you.”
David snickered as his fingers played over her hard nipples. “Well you are the boss.” He told her in his huskiest voice. “And I always follow your orders.”
Maddie looked up at him and laughed. “Yea sure.” She widened her legs and pulled his hand in between them. “But I think you may enjoy following these.”
David’s fingers began to play over Maddie’s lovebox as he kissed her neck in that special spot until she was writhing under him. “I love how hot you get for me.” He chuckled as he pushed into her for some early morning loving.
Maddie pushed up to meet his thrusts. “I love you David.” She moaned into his mouth as he made love to her with short hard pushes.
“God baby I love you too.” He told her as they both spiraled out of control.
Their afterglow was interrupted by the sharp ringing of the telephone. Maddie was tempted to let it go to the answering machine but then thinking it may be an emergency she picked it up with a short, “hello?” After listening for a moment, Maddie jerked up in bed. “Why of course.” She replied to the caller. She looked over at David. “No you don’t have to. David is here with me.” Did her voice sound smug?
David was trying to hear who it could be calling Maddie’s house so early. “Who is it?” He mouthed and was taken aback when Maddie threw him a nasty look but didn’t answer. “Yes of course. We’ll be there as soon as possible. Yes, goodbye.” She hung up the phone then moved off the bed and headed to the shower.
“Who was that?” He asked running his hand over his scruffy face. “And why are you giving me mean looks?”
“That was Jules Golden.” Maddie tossed out making the name seem less than appetizing to her. “She got another death threat.”
David sat up. “Ok and?”
“This one was on her breakfast table when she woke up this morning.” Maddie pulled the sheet around her. “She’s scared.”
David had lost interest in Maddie’s story concerning the singer he was confused and annoyed over Maddie once again using the sheet as a shield between them. He thought that, especially after their love declarations of last night, they were way beyond this state in their relationship. He reached over and pulled the sheet away from Maddie. “Why the hell are you covering your body?” His voice was coated with annoyance but still husky from sex and sleep. “It’s not like I never saw it before!”
Maddie shook her head and pulled the sheet out of his hands. “Call the office and tell Agnes we’re going straight to Jules’ house.” She told David without answering his question about the sheet.
David looked at Maddie and shook his head dourly but since he didn’t want to start a major battle to start off the day he just picked up the phone to call the office. When he hung up the phone he could hear the shower running. David jumped out of bed and followed Maddie into the bathroom to join her in the shower.
Maddie heard David enter the shower as she was rinsing out her hair. “Why are you here?” She snapped. She knew she was being unfair to David since he hadn’t done anything to her this morning but her jealousy from last night slammed into her like a sledge hammer when she heard that woman’s voice on the phone. Inwardly she sighed as she felt David pull her against him. She decided she would try to squelch her jealousy. After all, David wasn’t doing anything wrong so why be angry with him? So instead of moving away Maddie leaned back against his hard body with a sigh.
*****
An hour later they were pulling up into Jules’ driveway where she was standing waiting for them wringing her hands. “Oh thank God you’re finally here!” The singer’s eyes were wide with fright.
The couple raced up the steps toward Jules. As they headed to the kitchen and the note, Jules tossed her head back and forth as she spoke to them. “I don’t understand! Someone was in my house. They left this,” she told them as they reached the enormous kitchen; Jules picked up a white piece of paper from her butcher block table and waved it around, “on this table! They were in my kitchen!” She almost wailed, “they were in my HOME!”
David headed to Jules and gently pushed her into one of her kitchen chairs as he tried to soothe her. “First thing is we have to get you a new alarm system today!” He told the singer as she looked up at him with still scared eyes. “Then only you and us,” his hand waved around to encompass the three of them, “will have the code for the time being.”
Jules was nodding along with David’s words. “Ok sounds good but,” she just had a terribly frightening thought, “maybe whoever left that note is still in my house!” She tried to shoot out of the chair but David placed a gentle hand on her shoulder to push her back to a sitting position. He could understand her terror but she needed to keep her head if she wanted the case to be solved.
“Jules, you need to calm down if you want us to help. We’re here now.” David looked around. “Where’s your manager?”
Jules swept her long hair off of her face; even without a stitch of make-up she still looked beautiful. “He left before I found the note.” He was here all night but I guess he didn’t hear anything either. “And you know see my security detail is worthless.”
“Where’s that guy Pierce? Do you trust him at all?”
Jules nodded. “Yes, I trust John. He’s my agent. But he had to go out of town for a few days on business so he’s not around.” She sounded sad and frightened.
Despite Maddie’s jealousy over Jules she did feel sorry for the singer. Jules’ terror and panic were genuine. She walked over to the superstar and sat in the chair beside her and took her hand in hers. “David’s right. You need to keep your head. We’re here to help you.” Maddie looked up at David. “We need to search the house. Maybe we should call in Bert and Jamie for some help since the house is huge.”
David agreed and went to the phone to call for reinforcements. About an hour later Bert showed up with Jamie, O’Riley and Jorgenson. The four of them were thrilled to meet Jules and at first stared starry eyed at the rock star until Maddie’s evil eye brought them back to reality.
Jules wanted the detectives to do an in-depth search of the premises since she was terrified that someone might be hiding in her house. Maddie, David and the other four detectives separated into pairs to begin the search as Jules trailed behind Maddie and David. The trio didn’t say much as they searched the bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor.
A few hours later after the house was searched thoroughly, Jules felt less frightened but still was not comfortable in her own home yet and wouldn’t be until whoever was threatening her was caught; someone had been in the house in order to leave the threatening note. The other detectives left to go home but Maddie and David stayed behind with Jules. David wasn’t so sure that leaving Jules alone with her manager was the prudent thing to do. While Jules was in the shower, David told Maddie of his suspicions. “What should we do?” He ran his hair through his hair, “I don’t think we should leave Jules alone with the manager. What do you think?”
At first Maddie’s jealousy gripped her tight but she pushed those thoughts away. David was right; she didn’t trust the manager either. Maybe if they stayed tonight and met with the man they’d have a different view of him. So reluctantly, Maddie nodded. “I agree with you.”
David’s head whipped back and he hit himself on the top of his head with his fist. “What you agree with me?” He cried playfully. “What have you done with my Maddie?”
Maddie couldn’t help but grin. She really loved this nut. “Your Maddie is right here.” She laughed. “Is it so rare that I agree with you?”
David nodded his head. “Oh rarer than rare baby,” he moved close to her and whispered in her ear, “but thank God we agree on one thing most of the time.”
Maddie shivered with the feel of David’s hot peppermint breath on her face and in her ear, “and what might that be?”
His tongue flicked over her outer ear. “We love fucking each other.”
Maddie pulled away with a look of disdain. “Can’t you ever keep it nice Addison?”
“Hey honey I never professed to be a romantic.” He shrugged with a wicked grin.
“Sometimes a little romance can be nice.” She told him truthfully.
David pulled her in for a deep kiss, his kiss ravaged her mouth. “Oh I’m gonna romance you good when I get you home.” He promised.
“And guess that won’t be tonight.”
“Oh yeah.” David’s face fell.
A few minutes later Jules came out of the shower wearing a bright orange running suit that was molded to her body; her long hair was wild with damp curls framing her face – she looked stunning. David couldn’t help appreciate the sight of her curvy body but averted his eyes dutifully when Maddie caught him looking. God, he wasn’t dead he complained inwardly. Jules flopped on the multi colored sofa in her massive living room with a deep sigh. She looked up at the couple with sad grey eyes. “Sorry for being such a bother.” She shook her head making her wild hair sweep around her face, “I just don’t know what to do!”
“Hey nothing to be sorry about!” David told Jules. “You hired us to do a job. So we’re here doing our job.”
Jules nodded.
Maddie looked over at David then at Jules. “David and I think its best we stay here with you.” She waved at David. “We just don’t know what to think about your manager being here and not hearing anyone sneaking in.” Maddie told her.
Jules eyebrows shot up. “Oh no Pat is a good guy and I didn’t hear anyone either.” She reminded them.
“But his reason for staying here was to protect you. Not sleep.” David told her straight.
“I know Pat most of my life.” Jules moved her mane of hair off her face. “I trust him. But anyway, John came back this afternoon. He’ll stay here with me tonight.”
Maddie was relieved that they didn’t have to spend the night. She wanted to be alone with David. Driving back to her house Maddie put her head on David’s shoulder and snuggled up to him. He loved the way she was no longer afraid to show him affection. “I love you Blondie.” He whispered then he felt her hand stray to his inner thigh. “Now, now Miss Hayes.” He playfully warned. “How dare you take advantage of me and my emotions?” He winked at her merrily.
Maddie laughed as her fingers rubbed the bulge in David’s pants. “Oh I just love this particular emotion.” She pulled down his zipper and released the beast from its tight confines. “God you are so big.” She gasped as her hand played over his shaft and balls.
“Maddie I love you and I love what you’re doing but if you want to get home in one piece I strongly suggest you refrain from playing with the Big D.” He gulped trying to keep his attention on the road.
A low raspy laugh, “oh party pooper.” She giggled but reluctantly took her hand off his dick.
They barely made it in the house before they ripped off each other’s clothes and fell into each other’s arms with passion. Their coupling was wild yet loving as they whispered words of love. Finally, they made it to the bedroom where they spent the rest of the night wrapped in each other’s arms.
Wednesday
“David! David!” Maddie called out trying to wake David up. She had turned on the morning news to see the weather and plastered across the scene were pictures of Jules Golden. The threats on Jules’ life had somehow made the news. Camera crews were outside her house interviewing one of the maids who didn’t speak much English. The woman looked nervous and scared and was trying to get away from the reporters. A few seconds later Maddie saw John and a strange man wearing a security uniform yelling for the press to move back as they rescued the distraught maid from the media’s clutches.
“David!!” Maddie ran to the bottom of the stairs to call him. Sometimes David slept like the dead. After running half way up the stairs still calling his name Maddie finally heard David’s voice still half asleep. “Maddie?” Still half asleep David jumped out of bed and ran to the top of the stairs.
Maddie stopped and stared up at David who was standing at the top of the stairs butt naked with an impressive boner lying against his taut stomach. All thoughts of Jules Golden and the news immediately left her mind as she looked at her sexy man. A smile covered her face. “Good morning to you!”
David ran his hands through his sleep messed hair and looked down at Maddie with confused eyes. “Um you scream bloody murder to wake me up to tell me good morning?” He asked in a sleep infused voice.
Maddie gave a short laugh. “Oh no sorry.” She waved at him. “I was just momentarily thinking of something else.”
A slow grin spread over David’s face as his dick lengthened even more. “Is it a big thing?”
Maddie nodded. “Oh a very big thing.” She shook her head to clear it. “But really I woke you because Jules Golden is all over the news!”
“What? Why?” David ran downstairs still naked. He wasn’t shy about his body and Maddie had already examined every part of him. He turned on the TV in the living room and the news was still running the story of the death threats against the superstar. David looked at Maddie. “Wonder how this got out?”
She shook her head. “I don’t know but this can’t help. Whoever is doing this might now go underground with all this attention.”
David shook his head. “Or maybe the opposite. All this attention might make him feel powerful.” He shrugged. “I’m just wondering who leaked the story?”
And a few hours later after a romp in the hay and breakfast they drove over to the singer’s house where David brought up that question to a nervous Jules. She shook her head and shrugged. “I don’t know. Everyone around here from the maids to the pool boy must know of the threats. It could be anyone.” She stared up at David with wide grey eyes. “Does it matter?”
Maddie broke in, “we don’t really know.” It rankled her that even though she was in the room Jules always directed her comments and questions to David. Maddie pushed down any nasty thoughts about the rock star. “Maybe the person making the threats will disappear because of all the news surrounding this now.”
“We don’t know.” David added. “But we’re still on top of the case. Our agency is doing background checks on all your employees and everyone who works for your security firm.”
After a quick look around the premises, the detectives headed to the agency. The rest of the day Maddie and David worked at the office. Maddie was giving her full attention to the paperwork that she still had not completed and David was working on his expense reports – as he watched a Three Stooges marathon on TV. The rest of the staff were working on the background checks for the Golden case but so far nothing had turned up that might lead them to the perpetrator.
A little before 5 David popped into Maddie’s office; she was still working on the paperwork that she had ignored over the past weeks. He threw her a lopsided grin as she looked up at him. “Baby leave that for tomorrow and go home and get some rest.” Wednesday was his bowling night.
Maddie put her head back on her chair and yawned. “I’m almost done; just an hour or so and then I can leave with a clear head.” She smiled sweetly at David. “Bowling night?”
He nodded. “Want me to come over later?” He still was slightly unsure of his complicated woman. He was always afraid to come on too strong and possibly scare her off.
“What do you think?” She didn’t want to come off desperate but hell yeah she wanted him to come over.
A smug smirk ran up his cheek. “Oh I think that you do.”
“So see you later?”
David moved across the room and perched on the side of her desk. “Don’t think you’re getting rid of me that fast lady.” He leaned over and put his hand on the back of her neck to pull her face close to his. “I need one of your extra special kisses to hold me over til I see you again.”
Maddie giggled. “You are so full of it David.”
“What? That I want a kiss from the woman I adore?” He moved his face closer so that their mouths were breathing each other’s air. “Love you.” He purred as his mouth covered hers.
Tongues dancing, lips loving – finally they broke apart and David stood up slowly.
“Now what are you going to do about that?” Maddie pointed to the tent in his pants.
David pushed down his boner with a wink. “Oh it’ll keep for later.” He told her as he headed to the door.
“It better!” She called out to him as he opened the door.
David threw her a two fingered kiss then closed the door softly behind him. Maddie stared at the closed door with a smile.
Later that night, David was called away from his bowling game by the bartender who told him that there was an important phone call for him. David thinking something bad had happened raced to the phone. He picked it up and barked. “Yeah?”
“Mr. Addison?”
“What is it Agnes? You know it’s me!” Although, David loved Agnes Dipesto like a little sister sometimes he wanted to throttle her.
“Oh. Jules Golden called.”
“And?”
“She said it was important and that she needs you to come over to her house as soon as possible!”
“And Maddie?”
“I don’t think she called Miss Hayes.” Agnes was worried that the rock star was up to no good and would drive a wedge between her knuckle head bosses.
“Ok. Ok.” David hung up with Agnes to tell Maddie where he was going. He dialed Maddie’s house; she picked up on the third ring. “Maddie?”
“David? What’s wrong?” She was lying in a scented bath wearing a coconut face mask and sipping a glass of wine.
“No nothing.” He said. “I think. But I really don’t know. Jules called Agnes and told her she needed me at her house asap.”
Maddie didn’t like this. “Why?” She sat up in her bath quickly sloshing water over the rim of the tub and on to her tile floor.
“I have no clue.” David admitted. “Listen babe. I’ll keep you posted. I’ll see you soon.” He hoped. “I gotta go now.”
“Maybe I should meet you at her house.” Maddie suggested as the green-eyed snake reared its nasty head.
“No babe. It’s fine.” He assured her.
A twinge of jealousy covered her voice. “Oh I’m sure it is.”
David didn’t like the way this conversation was heading. “And what does that mean?”
“Nothing.” You know what it means you idiot, she wanted to scream but held her tongue. “It means nothing.”
“Oh your nothing is always something.” He threw at her in a voice coated with annoyance.
“Why would it matter if I was there anyway? I cease to exist when you two are together!” She told him through gritted teeth. “I feel like a third wheel.”
“Damn it that’s not true and you know it.” Why was there always so much drama with Maddie? She knew he loved her so why the jealousy?
“I know what I feel.” She threw back.
“I have no time for this now. I have to get going. And I love you baby. See you soon.” David hung up without waiting for Maddie to reply; he really had no time to get into a back and forth – nobody wins – argument now. He’d see what Jules wanted and be at Maddie’s house as soon as he could.
Or so he thought…..
Maddie couldn’t relax knowing that David was with Jules Golden. Even though he professed to love her, Maddie didn’t trust any man 100%. She hated feeling doubts about David but with his track record of one night stands and love em and leave em attitude it was difficult to trust him completely. So she paced, and she fretted and looked at the slowly moving clock until she felt as if she would scream. Although she wanted to race over to Jules’ house and see what was going on she knew that a move like that would be disastrous to their newly formed relationship so instead Maddie went to the refrigerator to take out an unopened but chilled bottle of Chablis. She opened the bottle, took it along with a glass and settled on the sofa – waiting and drinking and trying not to work herself into a jealous fury.
David had comforted Jules and hoped that she had called a friend to spend the night with her when he found out that Pat’s wife was sick so he couldn’t come over and that John was once again out of town for the night. When Jules begged David to stay the night he was stuck. He couldn’t leave Jules alone but he knew that there would be hell to pay with Maddie. Sighing deeply, he picked up the phone to call his complex blonde.
David thought he might be permanently deaf after Maddie slammed the phone in his ear. She didn’t take his staying the night at Jules’ very well and he felt more annoyed with her jealousy than flattered. Did she really think that he was going to risk their brand new relationship for a romp in the hay with some temperamental star? Damn that woman!
Maddie was filled with jealousy as she thought about David alone with that woman! Damn that man!
Thursday
Finally, Maddie fell asleep with the help of the wine but she felt worse when she woke up the next morning. David had never come over so now she was jealous, angry and sick to her stomach and her head was pounding so hard she thought it might explode.
Maddie wasn’t used to getting drunk and now she was paying for it dearly. She took a long hot shower and tried to force down some toast. After 2 headache pills, two glasses filled with stomach fizzy stuff and the toast she was feeling a little better. As she dressed she was filled with annoyance that David hadn’t even bothered to call her this morning to see why she was late to the office. She was furious and jealous and still nauseous so today was not going to be in her top ten of good days she knew as she called a cab to take her to Blue Moon. They really had to see about getting another car she thought as the cab sped through the streets making her still slightly pounding head start to throb again.
But when Maddie finally made it to Blue Moon her fury escalated when Agnes told her that David wasn’t in yet. Just as she was going to leave and go directly to the star’s home David strode into the agency looking scruffy and very tired.
David could see the murderous rage in Maddie’s eyes and his back went up. He was just doing his job, he spent most of the night sitting in a chair and now he was tired and cranky and didn’t have the energy to go 50 rounds with Maddie Hayes.
Maddie didn’t want to make a scene in front of the staff so she was keeping a tight rein on her anger. “May I see you in my office David?” She tried to keep her voice neutral but it still came out sounding shaky.
“See me what?” David quipped even though he knew his attempt at humor wouldn’t do anything to dispel the wrath of Maddie Hayes. As he followed her into her office his eyes weren’t on her shapely derriere; instead he was staring at the back of her head dreading another eruption of Mt. St. Maddie. And this time there was no reason in hell for her anger; he had been doing his JOB!
Maddie threw David a filthy look as she slammed the door behind him. David looked at her with a similar look before he flopped down on one of her office couches. He closed his eyes and prayed for mercy. “Why are you so damn mad?” He asked opening one bloodshot eye to stare at her. “I was only doing my JOB.”
Maddie didn’t have a comeback. Realistically, David was correct – he was on a case not out carousing but her jealousy was slanting reality. “You never even bothered to call me.” Was all that she could come up with.
He pursed his lips as his eyes turned cold. “You’re kidding right?” He knew she wasn’t.
“No.” Maddie snapped at him.
“Um if memory serves me right I did you call you to tell you that I was heading to Jules’ and then when I knew I was stuck there I called you again.” David tapped on his ear. “This ear is still ringing from your um reaction.” David shook his head. “Anyway I got stuck. Nobody was around and I couldn’t leave her alone.”
“Stuck?” Maddie tossed her head. “I doubt you felt stuck with your little singer.”
David jerked up into a sitting position. “You are being totally ridiculous!” He bellowed.
“Keep your voice down!” She directed waving her hand toward the door. “Why does the entire office have to know our business?”
David stood up and shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know; maybe cause you fly off the handle at every little thing!” He accused pointing his long finger in her direction.
Maddie gasped. “Every little thing? Every LITTLE thing? You call spending the night alone with a woman you are obsessed with a LITTLE THING??” She ranted and raved.
David’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “She’s a client and I’m not obsessed with her!” His voice was very low. “You’re nuts lady!”
Maddie looked at him with fury brimming from her eyes. Ready. Aim. Fire. “You’re right! I am nuts! And crazy to think we belong together!” When Maddie got angry with David she didn’t hesitate to throw at him anything in her arsenal which she knew would wound him. She knew she needed to get a handle on her dirty fighting but right now she was seeing red and green which turned her into a major bitch.
Bullseye! Those words slammed into David like a sledgehammer. To hell with her! “Maybe we don’t Maybe you need someone you can lead around by his nose.” David tilted his head and put his finger to his temple. “Maybe someone like Buck Rogers.”
Reload. Fire! “At least Sam can pay a check and throw a punch!” Maddie knew this time she had gone too far. As soon as the words left her mouth she wanted to pull them back in. And when she saw the hurt look on David’s face she felt shame sweep over her. She approached him but he backed away. “David I’m sorry. I didn’t mean…”
David backed up towards the door and escape. He needed to get away from Maddie. “Yeah you did.” He looked at her with green ice. “Maybe you should give him a call. He might still be in town.” And with that David slammed out of the office and left Blue Moon with the entire staff looking after him shaking their heads.
His grin broadened as he felt her shake her head. “And I have a very strict boss.” He quipped.
