“Oh call me David.” He suggested as he too stood up. “So what we should do know is take the name of the man you are suspicious of and the name of the firm and we’ll take it from there.”
Maddie nodded, she couldn’t wait to get away from that beautiful ball of energy. “Yes or you can just fax them to us in the morning.”
Jules face fell. “Oh no! I was hoping that you could start tonight. I mean just stay with me until my manager gets here. Lately, since I’ve been getting the threats I’ve asked him to stay over,” she looked at David and Maddie, “in my guest room. But he likes to be home to put his daughter to bed at 9 then he comes straight here.” She looked at the detectives with pleading eyes. “Can you stay? I really don’t want to be alone.”
David was nodding while Maddie was shaking her head. Then they began to talk in unison – overlapping dialogue.
David: “Of course we can stay we have nothing planned for tonight.”
Maddie: “Sorry we can’t stay. We have plans for tonight.”
Then they both stopped and stared at each other. Again in unison: “What did you say?”
David: “We have plans?” Maddie: “We have plans.”
David nodded to the other room. “Can I talk to you for a minute Miss Hayes?”
Maddie felt like David had thrown a bucket of ice in her face when he referred to her as Miss Hayes. Did he not want his little singer to know that were more than business partners? The green eyed snake was wide awake and seeing red as she followed David out of the room. As soon as the door closed she turned on him with a vicious glare in her eyes. “You bastard!”
David was stunned at Maddie’s venom. “What? What’d I do?”
Maddie’s eyes narrowed, “don’t play stupid.” She snarled, “oh wait with you it’s not playing.” When she was angry she couldn’t help the mean things that came out of her mouth and now she was furious.
David’s eyes turned into green ice. “What the fuck are you saying that I’m stupid?”
Maddie ignored his question. “Since when do you call me Miss Hayes in front of a client?”
David was truly puzzled. “I always call you Miss Hayes in front of a client.”
“No you don’t.”
“Yes I do!”
Maddie moved closer to David threateningly. “DON’T!!”
“DO!”
“DON’T!”
David ran his hands through his hair as he tried to calm down. “Exactly what are you trying to say? So what if I call you Miss Hayes?”
“You don’t call someone you’re boinking Miss Hayes.”
Maddie nodded, she couldn’t wait to get away from that beautiful ball of energy. “Yes or you can just fax them to us in the morning.”
